Can an American travel to another country to recieve medical help ?

I am needing alot of dental work done and am wondering if it would be cheaper for me to go to another country to do it. Or if it would or could be done there without me being a citizen. I know alot of you are from other countries and am wondering about your healthcare and the costs too. Any and all commments appreciated. Thanks.

Can an American travel to another country to recieve medical help ?
Yes, you can. I live in TX, near the Mexican Border and a lot of people go to see the doctor, dentist. Parents take their children to get braces and my best friend got lasik in Monterrey, Mexico.

Good luck any way!!!
Reply:You can be seen but it is not graunteed as good of a job if your going for cheap.
Reply:Thailand is good has good care and inexpensive, but I guess if you add the airfare, maybe you can work in a trip and at the end of your trip, have you dental ,work done. good luck!!
Reply:Stay away from the UK. You'll end up with teeth like an english bulldog.
Reply:Keep in mind though that America has some of the best quality health care if your not worried about the cost.
Reply:Yes, you can get dental work done in another country without being a citizen there. However, after adding the airfare and travel expenses, it think it would be cheaper to get it done in the USA. Try to get a dental plan on the internet -- make sure it covers a provider near you and one in the specialty you want. Get someone to review the coverage with you. Don't tell them that you are getting the plan because you need care right now. After you get the plan, call to confirm the effective date. Once effective, get the care you need. You may have to wait 30 days for the policy to become effective. Keep the plan for 6 months, and cancel after they pay the dentist. Read everything, especially the fine print.
Reply:There are a number of people who find it more cost-effective to fly to a foreign country and get whatever they need done there than have it done at home. Try using the phrase "dental tourism"; I got lots of hits when I did. Then shop and compare.
Reply:yes several people do it. i live in new mexico and my family goes to mexico to get any kind of medical help and its wayyyy cheaper
Reply:You can, but if they mess you up no doctors anywhere will want to help you.
Reply:Kittycat, people think we have superior care for the price, but they might be suprised to find that some of these countries they discount as inferior provide quality care for a fraction of the price. You can go to Mexico and get good dental care, you can go to Honduras as well. Most countries have a list of good doctors at the US embassy these doctors are who our embassies use and they are much cheaper than the US. Don't go to Canada though or any socialized medicine country though most private care is not available to you and they have waiting lists if they will care for you at all.
Reply:i recommend Romania been there and they did the best job ever and it cost me 2000 for everything and when i came back to us i went to my regular dentist and he was amazed so with the plane tickets hotel and souvenirs i spent $4300 for 3 weeks and i don`t regret a thing
Reply:Yes you can, but you may have to get a visa depending on the country. Also, expect to have to pay up front.
