If Barack Obama can create UHC for Americans, How will that effect the economy of a private dental practice?

I would appreciate only answers from DDS or equivilant with a private practice of atleast 10 years.

To answer your question;

UHC will destroy private practice. I am not a DDS but I do work in the medical field (Paramedic) I do have over 10 years experience. If Obama's version of UHC is anything like the current medicare, medicaid programs being forced on everyone in the medical field. Then as a private practice you would no longer have the right to treat only your clientele, your practice cannot discriminate or turn away all people who seek your services. You will lose the right to charge a fee of your choosing, you will be forced to accept the government rate that they will pay. If you do not accept these terms I am sure the government will either withhold your license to practice or take away your business license. I believe the current push for UHC is due to the fact that more and more medical services no longer accept the current medicare, medicaid system as a valid proof of payment for services.
Reply:I could only imagine it would be better for business (not a DDS). With affordable insurance I would imagine that people would be more likely to have regular visits. Obama's plan is optional for working adults.
Reply:I hate to tell you, but you are not going to find an DDS or equivilant with a private practice of atleast 10 years in here on this forum.
Reply:I am not a DDS, however I do have over 15 years experience in medical / dental management and billing. Both Hillary's and Barack's UHC plan should actually help your private practice. As I am sure you are aware there are already standard accepted charges /benefits in the insurance industry. There would not be any significant changes to the benefit/payment plan under either of their proposed plans ( in other words it is not going to be like medicare or medicaide.)

What you will end up seeing is more patients, many of which will have dental insurance for the first time in their lives and therefore will need more dental services (initially) than you current patients who have enjoyed long term dental insurance.
