Do you think Native Americans will ever stop blaming white people for their problems?

Anyone who lives near any rez sees the blame, the self-pity and the white hating.

Yet, not one of those people have less opportunity than anyone else.

[If they possess tribal census numbers, which is how tribal members are legally identified to qualify for the gravy train]

Each has an inheritance, a piece tax-free land,

Each has cradle to grave health and dental care provided by the US Public Health Service and USPHS hospitals,

Each is entitled to free government commodities

Each has victim status entitlements.

So, what's their gripe?

The gripe of every Native American is that they were over-run and they had to change their life styles. Same as happened to all our ancestors at some time in the past.

Because they've been conditioned to believe 'they' [some long dead ancestors] were cheated, they believe there's a debt that can never be fulfilled.

When will Native Americans be grateful for what they have, and cease resentment for what they never had?

Do you think Native Americans will ever stop blaming white people for their problems?
No, I don't think they ever will stop blaming the whites for their problems. I don't think there is anything in their culture or spiritual beliefs to encourage them to move on or adopt a forgiving attitude.

I think the difference between our white ancestors having had to move and change lifestyles and them is partly the fact that the European whites had a place to go... the USA...to start over, and the NAs didn't have that option. I think this made it easier for the European white immigrants to forget, over the years and generations, why they had come here in the first place.

It would be interesting if whites of European origin were to go back to the country of their ancestors and make a fuss and demand restitution for the injustice and persecution that their ancestors suffered...some of them could probably make a case for having been forced off of their own lands.
Reply:I guess it's hard to be "grateful for what they have" when they know what they once had and how it was taken from them.
Reply:Don't know? DO you think that African Americans will ever stop blaming the white MAN for their problems?
Reply:they will stop complaining when white people start really taking the blame.. And finding a way to really fix it..
Reply:After all it was the whites that forced them off their lands.
Reply:Your lack of understanding causes you to resent those who were persecuted in my father's time. He never denied his heritage though admission singled him and his two sisters out for severe persecution for their differences. Atonement by a government who repaid their welcome and friendship with such horrible consequences should never be forgotten lest it be visited upon us by some foreign people. Do unto others...
Reply:They were not the creators of this gripe. What about the Jews who constantly complain about something that has happened long ago.? Then the blacks who cry about the mistreatment of those long gone??? The history of this planet is filled with thousands of crimes against humanity. It is way past time for all of this to fade into history and for all of the gripers to live today not in the past that they truly do not know or care about the whole story or-of the facts in those stories
Reply:Well.. maybe its becasue white man is the source of their probelms, hell! white man is even seeing to kicking them out of their own coutry. They will stop blaming when white people start taking the blame for what they did. Wouldnt you hate them if they took away something that was great from you and are now asking you to settle for something less? White man has never apoligised or owned up for what they have done. So the resentmemt continues..although i dont think and apology would be enough for what they did.
Reply:My dad says he's give every damn thing back to have the life he should have had for himself, his children and their children's children.
Reply:put yourself in their shoes. think of what it would be like if al queda or hezbollah or hammas would take over .
Reply:I think it's difficult for Native Americans to embrace the system because it represents white culture. And being that they have a strong cultural identity and are the rightful owners of the land, it is hard for them to stop blaming white people.
Reply:White people totally stole ALL of their land, then put them on little reservations with nasty commodity food, and expect them to not be mad! Bullshit! That was VERY wrong to do, and those Native Americans should still be mad....
Reply:I wonder the same about the black people who do the same. I figure the "indians" were just as mistreated. I don't live near a reservation, but I hear more from the black community than the natives.
Reply:Being Native American myself, I can say that I disagree with the generalization that "all Native Americans blame white people for their problems." Does the person who asked this question know every Native American in the world? I'm assuming this individual lives near a reservation, or a highly concentrated Native community, and that makes them a know what every Native American is thinking, right?

Well, first of all, all the amenities you speak of; the "gravy train" where we receive living perks as a tribal member? Most Natives I know have NO HEALTH INSURANCE, like the millions and millions of other people in this country. Oh, and the tax free piece of land? Hahahaha! Must be nice! To obtain land, there is a process, and you are not always guaranteed. You must also PAY for a structure on that land. Meaning, we MUST PAY FOR A HOME TOO! Not to mention all the expenses it costs to have an electrician, plumber, and contractor to make the home operational.

And the jobs produced by a casino empire? Not every reservation has a Mystic Lake or Hurrah's generating millions of dollars in revenue for the ungrateful indians. Jobs are slim pickings on the reservation. Entrepreneurs need trainings on the reservation to help them produce their own income.

I am a tribal member of the Red Lake Nation in northern Minnesota, and very proud of it. I was born in Minneapolis, and never lived on the rez. I have the opportunities like everyone else, and I choose not to blame others for our cultural condition. But before you continue into your future believing that indians are lazy, whiney, and ungrateful government cases, take a look at history. Understand history as much as you can. I'm not talking about the history we were taught as children in elementary but the TRUTH!

When Columbus landed in the Carribean Islands in 1492, there were approximately 100 million Indigenous people in North America. About 100 years later, in the early 1600's, there were only 10 million. Okay, so, in 100 years, 90 MILLION PEOPLE died from disease and genocide. During the Halocaust, 6 million peole died, so why don't we learn about this time period as well? I suppose America can overlook it. Just like we don't speak about Hiroshima they way we should. Or how we don't hear about the third world countries that are in chaos because of America. There is violence, death, and torture there everyday. But here we are, Americans with our fancy cars, air conditioning, and abudant restaurants. Movies keep us distracted, drugs keep us numb, and money keeps us ravenous. Why should we give a f@#! innocent babies in other countries are starving and blown up by bombs? Why do we care if pregnant indigenous women were gutted and hanged in front of their children? Who gives a s*#@ if the Earth continues to be raped and chemically assulted constantly? Well, maybe if you quit worrying about the grievances of Native Americans and help your community, than maybe we can get somewhere. It's not about white people. It's about GREED. These greedy gluttens have ruled the world for centuries, and it's bigger than just the Native Americans. Everyone is affected by this evil force. So, why don't we wake up, smell the global warming, and stop nit picking about little **** when we are all unknowingly slaves to consumerism.

Reply:but it is white people's fault. white people came here mass murdered many and threw others reservations. and you think they should be grateful. my mom's family is native american and they lie about who and what they are so they won't be put on those to reservations. we have some family that live on the reservation, but many of us mix w/ other stuff so we won't be out there. it isn't a nice life. why don't you try it for a day. here are a couple of acres of land you can't leave, you can't explore the world outisde of it, oyu can't indulge in all of the new technology, you can't go to college unless you promise to come right back. does this sound good to you?
Reply:Siyo Sick puppy,

For that is what you must be to speak such foolish words about us....

I don't live on a Rez, nor recieve any free gifts or money, yet I am poor, but remain rich beyond belief.... How is that possible ?

Well, I am of Ani-yunwiya/Tsalagi heritage, something you know little of, for my Ancestors have lived upon these lands befor time.

You need to quit asking questions and learn to get to know some of us to understand the lack of your knowledge of what really goes on.

Tell your government to ADMIT to the atrocities that happened and ARE happening.

All it would take is a WRITTEN APOLOGY with special notation to ALL they have done, and their OFFICIAL Policies.

It's not "WHITE PEOPLE" as much as it is th GOVERNMENT that speaks FOR YOU. WHITE as an individual is not really a concern, WHITE as an IDEOLOGY IS a concern.

I KNOW full well they will NEVER apologize or admit to their wrong doings. It IS this reason they will NEVER join the 'world court" because they could be brought on charges of "Crimes against humanity"

MURDER has NO statute of limitations in ANY court.

I responded to this NOT for you, but for the other posters. YOUR mind is set, and your view narrow. Nothing you will be told will change that.
Reply:Even if there are many whites who TODAY would not wish to cause any harm and suffering, a lot of what many deal with is STILL today from what people did a few generations ago... Pretty much a domino affect that's not easy to stop.

And if some people want to be bitter, what's it doing to you? It seems to me our government is throwing most of our hard earned money away on crap that isn't needed, rather then helping our citizens, like the homeless and those who are poor on reservations. So why not go ***** about that instead.

P.S. Do you think the terrorists think we need to stop whining about the attacks?
